Quilting with the church ladies...

When we first moved here, one of the first things I became involved with regularly was quilting with the ladies at church. It occurred to me this morning that I mention it a lot to my online friends, but have never really talked about it or shown what we do!

We meet twice a month now for a few hours each time and share a meal together. I take the kids and they run around and keep themselves entertained while we work. The quilts are made from scraps and sheets donated or found at thrift stores and garage sales. We generally have between 6 and 10 ladies quilting at each meeting. We cut the fabrics into squares, go through fabrics and put the quilts together while we meet.

The quilts have a top, which we put together at home individually, a middle, and a back. The layers are sandwiched together, then we tie them with yarn and pin around the edges so that they can be finished at home.

The quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief and distributed to those in need, often in foreign countries that we can't even pronounce. You can find out more about the organization HERE. The ladies of the church also collect items to make layette kits for LWR. Last year we made 165 quilts, the year before we did about 300. (Having the twins has affected my production!)
