fun stuff alert!!!

Oh, boy, oh, boy! In case you haven't already heard, we are finally (sort of) employed after 8 months of unemployment. woohoo! We will be moving in the next few months to start a new job in July in Nebraska. Because moving is expensive and I am impatient, I have been planning out our new decor for some time now. I've been doing lots of research and have been formulating color schemes, and all sorts of fun stuff! Basically, all the money I am making from my new etsy shop is going towards new fabrics, bedding and furniture. For the most part, nothing in our home has changed in almost 10 years, so it's time to freshen things up! I'll be sharing with you our projects and purchases as they finally start to take shape!

When I asked Sarah what she'd like for her new room to look like (she currently is using MY old bed and bedding) she said she wanted pink and red. Hmmmmm. I tossed the idea around in my head for a while and decided it wasn't that bad as long as we had some other colors thrown in. Then I found this super cute fabric by
Heather Bailey with pink and red in it, along with the other fun colors I was hoping for. From there I started gathering other pink and red fabrics with the idea that we would create a duvet cover or quilt with some appliques made of the different fabrics. Very funky, fun, girly, and whimsical!

After months of brainstorming on how we'd do the bed cover, I hit the jackpot today! Kohl's sent out a $10 gift card thing and I found this striped king sheet set on clearance, so it only cost us about $15! The colors are perfect and it will be more than enough fabric to do her duvet and whatever else we want. Here it is with some of our other fabrics. The colors couldn't match the Heather Bailey fabric any better!

So here's the plan...we will do the duvet out of the stripe and then applique some modern looking flowers made from the other fabrics. I am thinking we may even incorporate some fabric yo-yos in the centers with buttons (maybe even where they are actually attaching the cover to the comforter so it doesn't get bunched up inside.) Here's a quick drawing of what we have in mind. Sarah is so excited!

And the shams will be of the Heather Bailey yellow fabric, maybe with a border of the stripes and some ties.

Of course, the final look will depend somewhat on the room she winds up with (in the house we don't have yet) but the plan is to do bold pink walls with crisp white trim. She has an antique white wrought iron bed which will pop against the bold colors. We picked up this dresser for $30 last summer at a garage sale and we are thinking we'll paint it a candy apple red w/ some hot pink underneath and distress it a little. I usually stick to white for furniture, but why not take a chance with the red?! I know we'll love it and we can always repaint it if we don't.

So there it is! We are both almost giddy that we actually have something new to work with! I'll start working on it over the next week and I'll share the end result with you once we're finished.
